Elements and Principles of design

Artist Statement

I didn't love this project but I kind of like how simple it was and how it forced me to think of new ideas. However I'm not too sure if I like how mine came out. I really struggled with some of the categories in the grid. For this project I worked in my own sketchbook from home. I also used gel pens, black sharpie felt pen, colored pencils and sharpies. I started off writing the words in the grid and then just started in the top left corner, and just kept going.

My favorite box is probably either movement and line or the whole line of proportion. By the time I was creating the boxes for proportion I was kind of in the swing of things and I was listening to 4:44 by Jay Z which is a good album. I also really struggled with space and texture as those were trciky for me to wrap my head around. A lot of the boxes in value I took inspiration from James Turrell who is an artist who works with light.

Hardly any of this represents me at all and these are not drawings that I would normally create as I much rather prefer realistic acrylic painting or even graphic design type stuff. However tt was kind of interesting to use strictly the principals and elements of design in the purest form.

These are my favorite boxes as well as pictures of James Turrell and his work and Jay-Z and his album 4:44.
