Cheer Bow

For my time capsule drawings, I had to draw a self-portrait, a still life, and the corner of a room. For my self-portrait, I drew the more obvious and visible features such as my nose, eyes, ears, mouth, hair, etc. I remembered what I had previously learned in art class and added shading around the nose, where my eyelids are and between my mouth and my nose. I did this to make the drawing look more realistic and it was where the areas on my face in the picture were darker. For my still life, I chose to draw my cheer bow for game day. I worked hard on adding details to make my drawing better and shaded wherever I saw shadows when drawing. I chose to draw this because this is my first year cheering and it’s just an object that has a lot of meaning to me. I did my best to make it look as realistic as I could with the experience I currently have. Finally, for the corner of a room, I decided to do a corner in my parent's room. I did this because it had a lot of different features in it that I could draw because I didn’t want it to look boring and draw just a corner with no details. That is why I chose that specific corner. I also did my best to draw an air thing in the window area but it doesn’t look realistic. I made these drawings to show my growth throughout my years of doing art. As I learn new skills, I can look back and reflect on these pieces. I can see where and how I could have improved and how I can continue to improve in the future.

For my self-portrait, I used a mirror, an H graphite pencil, and an HB graphite pencil. I used the H to sketch an outline of my face and the HB for more confident lines after I got the sketch down. For my still life and my corner of a room I just used a number 2 pencil because that is what I had available at the time. I used the number 2 pencil for sketching, more confident lines, and shading by pushing down lighter or harder.

For my self-portrait, still life, and corner of the room, I sort of did the same kind of experiments. For example, I had to re-draw each of these pieces at least once because I didn’t feel they were quite right, so I kept trying over and over until I got it right. All of these pieces evolved when I started to try and make my pieces more 3D. I did this by adding darker lines, shading, and really observing the objects before I drew them. In the future I could work on being more confident in my art, using darker lines, shading in appropriate areas, and looking closer at what I am drawing to get a different perspective and pay closer attention to details.
