Extended Blind Contour

For my Blind contour drawing, I had multiple different ideas of what it would look like in my head. We had to draw a self-portrait, another person, and our hand all without looking at the paper and turning the paper each time we switched drawings. My art looks crowded in some areas more than others because we had to draw each image on top of each other. After drawing the blind drawing, I turned the paper different directions to try and see what came in mind. I saw a fish in one part and a robot in another so I drew a fish on top of a robot's head. My project relates to my life because it sort of just goes with the flow and is different.

I used a 16.75x10.33 area of a piece of watercolor paper to complete my project. I started off by just using an HB pencil to scetch the robot and the fish and then going over the pencil lines in sharpie. I first used Crayola colored pencils to color in my fish and robot by then decided to take it a step further. I wanted to spice things up a little so I started using a variety of different colored Crayola markers and used regular water that I just spattered on top of the paper to create an almost tie-dye effect. I had to tape the corners with masking tape so that the border would remain white. Those were all of the materials I used to create my piece.

I experimented with process by trying to evolve my project to make it better. I first used a sharpie to connect what I already had drawn to what I had in my head (finished the fish and robot with a sharpie). My project evolved after I started to color the robot and fish in with colored pencils. I decided it needed something more. I chose to try and do a watercolor sort design using markers and water. I first colored rhombus shapes with different markers. I was looking for some sort of pattern but then just decided to splash water on it and see if it looked cool. In the future, I could try to make a pattern in the background instead of just something random. I would have to use less water to achieve this because too much water made the paper curl a little which piled water into random “puddles”. I would also try to be a little more careful with the tape because I accidentally tore off some of the corners.
