Gelli Prints

Negative Space Gelli Print

Positive Space Gelli Print

Extended Gelli Print/ghost print

For my pieces of artwork in this unit, we had to make different types of leaf prints. We made negative space prints, positive space prints, and ghosts of the positive space prints. You can see the outline of the leaves in one print, and the details of the leaves in the others. For my extended hello print I sort of went with the flow and tried to be creative. If something didn’t look how I wanted it to I would do my best to fix it and learn from my mistakes. It definitely didn’t turn out how I hoped it would but it’s a learning process and I will try not to make the same mistakes in the future. This relates to my life because I messed up on some of the prints and had to step back, correct my mistakes, and redo what needed to be done. I make mistakes sometimes but you can’t give up and you have to be able to correct your mistakes in order to move forward similar to what I did in this piece.

We used a lot of different tools to create this piece of artwork. We had to collect leaves from outside that we wanted to print. For my Gelli prints a 6x6 in area of our 9x12 in paper to create our prints. It is this size because that is the size of the Gelli printing plate we rolled ink onto. My extended Gelli print, however, was 9x12 because I decided to take up all the space on the paper not just some of it. We also used a brayer to roll the and some ink onto the table hook palettes that were hooked on the table. We then rolled the paint on the hook until it made a Velcro-type sound.

We had a blank piece of paper underneath the glass square that the gel printing plate was on. We then took some ink rolled the paint onto a table hook and then on the gel printing plate. We then placed the leaves of our choice down on top of the paint. We lined a blank piece of paper up with the piece of paper underneath the glass to make sure that our print came out straight. My project evolved by forcing me to take my time on my final products. Due to the fire drill, I was rushing to get my prints finished and I realized the first set I made was not straight. I then got a callback and redid all of my prints so that they would be the best quality that I could produce. If I were to do this project again, I would definitely make sure that I paid closer attention to details. I would make sure that my prints were as centered as I could get them by making sure the piece of paper above and below the prints were lined up.
