Donate Life

For this project, I had decided that I wanted to do lungs because it was the first thing that popped into my head at the time. I wanted to make it stand out so I chose a more vibrant approach because it will be more likely to catch people’s attention to possibly get them to donate. This project relates to my life because it is very colorful like me and is just a different approach than some that other things I have seen. It likes to take risks as I do.

To create this I used a 10 x 7.25 inch piece of watercolor paper. I also used a variety of other materials including paint pens, Crayola markers, ruler, acrylic paint, paintbrush, pen, scissors, modge podge, clear filtered water & alcohol, spray bottle, Crayola colored pencils and a 4H pencil.

I experimented with process in a few ways. I started by taping off the edges of my watercolor paper to make sure there was a 1-inch border. I then scribbled all over the paper with blue and purple markers until it was covered. After that, I took the spray bottle filled with water and alcohol and sprayed the entire paper until it was soaked. Once it dried I took some acrylic paint and flicked “stars” onto the paper using a paintbrush. I then looked at references for a general shape of what lungs looked like and drew some on a separate piece of paper. I repeated the same process with the water, alcohol, and marker for this other piece but with pink and yellow markers. I then began drawing flowers and vines with a pencil, went over it with a pen, then colored one side of the lungs in with colored pencils and leaving the other side with just the pen background to emphasize one good lung and one bad lung. I cut those lungs out with scissors and used modge podge to glue it onto the now dry watercolor paper. I came up with a slogan and using a ruler wrote it out in white paint pen at the bottom of the lungs. In the future, if I were to do this project again I would do my best to try to maybe add more details and make my unhealthy lung (that would’ve needed to be replaced) look less like the healthy one.
