Beautiful Oops

For my beautiful Oops I sort of just went with whatever popped into my head. My Oops was a little bit harder for me to be creative with because I got 3 dots of the ink. It would’ve been easier if it was smeared more because it would be easier to think of something creative. I started with using the black dots as pupils to make some sort of sloth but ended up taking my piece in a different direction. It reminded my of Sid the sloth from ice age but I knew I couldn’t draw him because he is already a cartoon drawing and that would be plagiarism. I think that’s where I started considering making a realistic looking sloth but it just didn’t work out that way. I did the outline of my creature as sort of like a sloth and then added 1 chameleon eye and one human-ish eye. Then I draw ears and thought they looked like leaves so I made them into leaves. I then started to incorporate a few different kinds of animals including a zebra, a pig, and human lips. I chose to make my piece of artwork because it is crazy and wild sort of like my life. I just went with whatever my hand started drawing or the first thing that came to my head. I ended up creating some sort of mutated animal in a way. I always make crazy and almost “Picasso” like drawings so I decided to be creative with it.

I created my drawing by using a 9”x12” piece of watercolor paper, some graphitic pencils and some colored pencils. I used the watercolor paper to draw my creature on and used the H and 6b graphite pencils. I used the H pencil for sketching because it’s lighter and easier to erase, and 6b for darker more confident lines after I got my sketch down. I used colored pencils to color in the shapes and designs that I had drawn both within my creature and around it. I tried to color in all the space on the paper by making sure all areas were colored with no white spaces. I colored my border too by adding darker lines over some of the lighter color to make it pop and look more realistic.

I experimented with process and my creature evolved by trying to incorporate many different shapes and colors that go well together. For the body of the creature I created I was originally going to make it black and white striped like a zebra. However the white unintentionally stood out too much so I changed the white to pink. I then made random lines everywhere which created little triangles. I tried to fill the triangles with as many different shapes as I could. I tried to make each triangle have a different pattern with different colors. For future pieces I could try to make the colors compliment each other a little better. I could also try to incorporate 3-D type shapes and work on shading more.
