Artwork 2, Colour pencil, greylead pencil on paper
My theme this year was illusion. I aimed to explore the subjective nature of human perception and the way in which it can be distorted by illusions. In particular I focused on optical illusions as well as hallucinations.
Artwork 1.
This artwork follows my theme of illusion. I aimed to illustrate how optical illusions can warp a person's perception and employed the use of a series of overlapping grid-like tubular illusions to give the artwork a confusing and disorienting aesthetic. I chose to create this artwork on a larger scale as I aim to invite the audience to become more involved in the work and create a more immersive experience for the viewer. I included a collage-like background of black and white paper in an attempt to further the sense of contrast in my work. I provided my artwork with no real focal point in an attempt to give it a more busy and disorienting aesthetic.
Artwork 2.
My second artwork explores imagination and how illusions can tap into our rich inner worlds. In this artwork, I chose to draw myself as I would like the drawing to be a personal reflection of my own imagination. I aimed to provide the artwork with a busy and intense aesthetic. This was achieved through the crowded background of the artwork. In contrast, the bright red and orange colours provide the work with a more playful and youthful aesthetic.
