In My Head

Intention

My intention is to explore the theme of surrealism for my final product. I am fascinated with the way this genre/theme challenges the human mind and changes the way we perceive the real word and creates art to represent real life. To really understand the character I aim to reveal their subconscious through false realities to engage with the character on a personal level by letting the audience in on exactly what the mindset of a mid to late teenager is such as being unsure of where they are in life so the audience realises they are not alone in the journey that is human existence. I want the audience to consider what the colours in lighting and imagery represent within the character and environment within the final product. I am making this product because it will expand my capabilities in film production and having your ideas come to life when brainstorming and allowing my creativity to be explored. Other works that have inspired my ideas in this product is the film ‘I’m Thinking of Ending Things’ by director Charlie Kaufman which explores human consciousness and how we predict our life through different scenarios in our head of a picture perfect future to keep us hopeful. To appreciate this product people need to be aware of conventions in surreal films such as non linear story structure that doesn’t always follow a straight plot with changed settings or situations. Contradictions of law and nature are also important in understanding surrealism in film as rules are broken when it comes to what is real and what is within the mind.
