Cosmos
'Cosmos' explores the universe as an ordered and systematic entity, a construct that aims to visualise a sense of interconnection, complexity, wonder and energy. The artwork involves impressionistic techniques and hones in on the power of movement, form and light through a number of circular, detailed layers flowing outwards from the centre. It aims to offer a vibrant representation of the universal law of cause and effect with references to celestial structures, including the Eta Carinae supernova and The Crab nebula.
Chaos
‘Chaos’ is a work also of abstract expressionism and gestural movement, aiming to translate the feelings and ideas of chaos, disorder and destruction into physical imagery. Inspired by the values, style and movements of the artists Jackson Pollack, Michael Lang and Umberto Boccioni, the artwork aspires to reach a level of uncontrol within the process of its creation. Each square inch holds a multitude of layers of varying textures and forms created by action painting techniques using ink and acrylic paint, and carefully positioned PVA sheets, in order to create a sense of powerful anarchy and havoc.
Together, the two artworks, Cosmos and Chaos, are united by their juxtaposition; two sides of a coin separated by their ideas and interpretative imagery. Underlyingly there is a connection within their exploration of natural phenomenon, time, gestural movement, and vibrant, emotive colours; however, it is how each has been developed with a totally different focus that makes them visually look so separate.
“Artists are here to disturb the peace. They have to disturb the peace. Otherwise, chaos.” ~ James Baldwin
“Everything has its wonders even in darkness and silence… and I learn, whatever state I may be in, therein, to be content.” ~ Helen Keller
