Versions of Myself, charcoal and thread on paper
Coexisting, coloured pencil on paper
I explored the theme of existence this year in my folio and works. Within this theme, I explored smaller sub-concepts including the ways in which we exist/states of being, identity and coexistence.
Versions of Myself
My first final artwork explores my overall theme of Existence, and within this, the different ways in which we may exist. It proposes the possibility that different versions of ourselves exist beyond a physical form, and perhaps through our own and other’s minds. Each figure and separate drawing represents how the multiple versions that exist that are often incomplete or blurry as subjective views and experiences create each version, preventing any version from being entirely complete or objective. Sewing each piece from this series together communicates how these different versions coexist with each other too.
Coexistence
This work explores the idea of humans coexisting with nature. I present a harmonious existence between the two. Though plants and flowers growing on or around people isn’t necessarily a natural occurrence, the figure within the drawing seems unbothered, hence suggesting that sense of harmony. The realism style not only appears cohesive with my other work, but also aims to depict real-life to suggest that this coexistence can occur in reality.
