I hope you had a wonderful holiday.
Welcome to the 2nd semester.
As you continue progressing through school, consider continuing your education in Technology regardless of what industry you are interested in. Just about every industry interacts with computing, and so regardless of your ultimate goal, you can benefit from being well-versed in computing and programming.
The intended next course for this pathway is Computer Maintenance at Guthrie. However, this course also supports the Programming pathway; so you should also consider taking CS1 and CS2 in 9th & 10th grade. In 11th and 12th grade, you can take Diploma-level Computer Science or you can also take the Cybersecurity courses at the Guthrie Center.
If you are more interested in creating graphics, 3D animation, or photography, or video editing; then thats a separate series of pathways at the Guthrie center- but they all start with the Principles of Arts, A/V, & Comm. class in 9th grade (this class focuses on software including Photoshop, After Effects, Blender, and more). Ask your counselor about it if you're interested.
We will continue the same organization scheme we used before the break; keeping the week's work in slides.
Make a copy of these slides:
https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1ciwYLVux_5xvoeGVrl976oaKgFbCFlDdPDjFDk3CvH8/edit?usp=sharing
In your Google Drive, you should have a shared folder for this class; it should have folders for the 1st Quarter & 2nd Quarter in it. Today is the 1st day of the 3rd Quarter.
If you don't have a folder for the 3rd Quarter already, add one.
These slides should go in there.
It's probably been a few weeks since you did much typing.
Do you think you might be a bit out of practice?
We did the benchmark before break, let's see if being out of school has made you a bit rusty.
Let's start our semester with the benchmark today:
https://shaunwegs.github.io/2024/pit/t/d/8-21.html
In addition to adding today's stats to the regular spot in your Typing Log, you should also add it to your spot for Benchmarks. Right now, it should three dates; August 21st, October 15th, and December 11th.
Today is the fourth benchmark, so add one for Jan. 7th and put todays WPM there.
Add a screenshot showing your updated benchmarks to your slide for today.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
What's your plan for the future?
Regardless of where you want to go, or even if you aren't sure... are you approaching your daily life and schooling with the right attitude to help you succeed in whatever future you decide?
Earlier in the year, you took a short survey. I informed you that we'd revisit it a few times throughout the year.
Completion of the survey is for a grade, but not specifically what you answer. Think about the questions and answer them based on what you believe to be true.
Take it here:

Discuss the following
1.a) In regards to school in general, how did your fall semester go? Explain.
b) Specifically related to this course, how do you feel about your choices and their results for last semester? Explain.
2) Regarding academic goals: Academic goals include IB, HS endorsements, scholarships, college/university acceptances, university or work place readiness, graduating of course, and many other possible academic goals you may have for yourself.
a) What endorsement/s do you plan to earn in high school?
b) Do you intend to take the IB DP or IB CP in 11th/12th grade?
c) What other academic goals do you have for yourself? Explain.
3) Life in general: There are, of course, things you should reflect on regarding pretty much everything you do, but we’d be here all day or longer if I asked about everything. Consider where else you spend your time throughout your day, and reflect on how beneficial it is or isn’t for you, your goals, and your future. Consider how you can change or improve the things you aren’t satisfied with.
