Last class, we looked mostly at ancient history; but cryptography isn't only ancient history- it's modern history too.
It's also not just history... we still do this stuff...
In 2010, the NSA opened the NSA/CSS Texas Cryptologic Center (aka Texas Cryptology Center, aka Texas Cryptographic Center, aka NSA Texas) in San Antonio. In 2022, the NSA released a promotional video about their 70 years of history in leading the U.S. government in cryptology.
The NSA also has a challenge/competition that they release each year for students- it's aimed more for university/college students, but you can check it out. It's pretty hard, but keep in mind, it's more targeting university students.
When we do anything, including encoding or encrypting, we're following an algorithm. Algorithm, and types of algorithms, is something we'll be discussing a bit more over the next few class periods. Algorithms are commonly discussed and referenced in relation to comptuer science and programming. You need to be familiar with the term.
Let's briefly go over the concept.
We've looked at cryptography a bit over the last few days. Encrypting, decrypting, and cracking enciphered text involves following certain steps- ie, algorithms.Â
Write out an algorithm to encrypt, decrypt, or crack a cipher/cryptogram of your choice.
