We talked a little about the color and science as it relates to tech yesterday, but to go further into tech, it's good to have a fuller understanding of color.
After watching the video, you should be able to answer all 6 questions on this page correctly:
Understanding Spectra

The majority of today's videos feature Dominic Glynn. Who is he?
Dominic Glynn has a degree from the University of South Australia in Master of Engineering (Info Technology & Telecommunications). He is an Imaging specialist, mathematician, and color scientist. He leads Pixar's endeavors in High Dynamic Range (HDR), mastering & exhibition, including the theatrical release of Pixar's “Cars3” in Dolby Cinema. Dominic has worked on over 20 projects with Pixar, including Ratatouille, Wall•E, Up, Brave, Toy Story 3 & 4, Cars 1-3, Monsters University, Inside Out, The Good Dinosaur, Finding Dory, Coco, & The Incredibles 2.
We played a little with making colors yesterday, using spreadsheets. Let's learn a bit more about how colors mix, before playing with a few online tools.
Let's take some of that understanding and try to make some colors using both the RGB color model, and the HSL color model. Hint, white is the first color to match on both.
RGB Color Matching:
https://www.khanacademy.org/computing/pixar/color/color-101/e/rgb-color
Can you match all 8 correctly? Take a screenshot showing you got check marks for all 8.
HSL Color Matching:
https://www.khanacademy.org/computing/pixar/color/color-101/e/hsl-color-matching
Can you match all 8 correctly? Take a screenshot showing you got check marks for all 8.
Which did you find more difficult, RGB or HSL?
Keep in mind, everything in a computer is actually numbers. How it's represented to us, or how it is emitted as light onto a film screen is also just numbers- just interpreted different ways for different software and different tech. Not all of these technologies are the same, and this can result in problems sometimes.
After going through all of that, you should be able to do pretty well on this color mini-quiz:
