of InfoTech
Information Technology is a broad topic, and as such, you'll learn a broad variety of things as we move through these courses. It includes hardware, software, electronics, and more. We'll do some programming as well, although it isn't the main focus. You'll also learn how to showcase your new and improved skills while building up a professional portfolio.
Maybe.
While Information Technology is a strong area of industry on its own, it also connects to all other industries now too, from medical care to sports- technology has changed and continues to change everything.
Computer Science is also an especially important field, and overlaps with information technology. Computer Science tends to focus more on the development of algorithms and their implmentation through programming. IT tends to focus a bit more on the use of applications and electronics instead. Computer Science is a bit more beneficial across STEM overall, however both of these are beneficial, and IT may be a bit more useful in some specific STEM subfields.
If you are interested in any STEM area, adding Computer Science to your studies is a good idea and will likely benefit you in your future studies and potential careers.
Which STEM fields relate to Computer Science?
All of them.
While Computer Science itself is not Engineering, there is significant overlap between Engineering and Computer Science, and subfields of Computer Science are also subfields of Engineering. The work of many engineers also includes work within the Computer Science field.
Due to the overlap between Engineering and Computer Science, is not unusual for universities and colleges to combine them into the same department. Likewise, majority of engineering programs in college include at least some technology and computer science/programming courses. If you want to be an engineer, you will likely need to take at least a few Computer Science courses. As such, computer science courses do help prepare you for engineering, and look good on transcripts for any student interested in any STEM area, including engineering.
