The Jointed Styx

The Jointed Styx keep Domecus hidden within their secret society. They created a fake deity to conceal their organization; any church of Atarius from Lurisia to the crown lands is merely a front. Most of the people who attend these churches have no clue their god is an illusion. The Jointed Styx aren't inherently evil though, what they desire is underlying control, to leave all governments where they stand, take away their power, and leave them as figureheads.

Followers of Domecus hide their faith and covet power. They may have given tasks or positions assigned by the Styx or (more rarely) by Domecus himself. The Jointed Styx use secrecy and deceit to get ahead. They forge documents to pose as nobility or discredit leaders. They sneak around to spy on opponents and steal. Although they don't have their own language, the Jointed Styx use many coded messages; Atarius and the river are a few of their most used phrases. “The river now flows through Garrison three.” might mean the influence of Domecus has spread to garrison three, or “The mayor has become a follower of Atarius.” might means that the mayor is now a member of the Jointed Styx.
