Johannes Luwensan, or Father Johannes, or Father Johannes Luwensan the Undying, is a life cleric who works in the Howl and is rumoured to be over one hundred years old despite being human. He runs the only apothecary within the Howl HQ under Bertrand Bower, and attends to injured Howl rangers as well as conducts research into immortality and anti-aging through alchemical means. He is a prodigy of Arium the Eternal, and claims to have lived as long as to have known Arium himself back in the days of the Old Empire. He has a generally cranky and sour misdemeanor, and is necessary within the Howl but not well-liked, only tolerated due to his invaluable abilities.
He was tasked to find Promethium by Bertrand Bower in order to resuscitate Tellig Tulach, and journeyed with Sun Starman, Julius Dolkolge and Caroline Weche to an underground Titan's Lair where there was a stash, guarded by Koa-toa. However, after the expedition, it was brought to his attention that Sun Starman's gauntlets were made of Promethium the entire time.
On their way back, Luwensan learned that he (along with Caroline Weche) was intended to be left to die on that mission by Bertrand Bower. Enraged, he questioned Bower's right to rule as Howl Commander and came up with a plan with Julius and Sun to replace him with Tellig Tulach. Sun escorted Johannes to the Volcano in Egdallev while Julius returned to the Howl to retrieve Johannes' apothecary tools...and Tulach.
Among Johannes' supplies is a very important journal, belonging to Arium the Eternal himself. It is true that Johannes has been alive since the time of the old empire, through some carefully cast restoration spells, he has extended his life well past its usual limit, with no end in sight. The issue is that since the human body was not meant to sustain a body for this long, Johannes has been in search of a means of transferring consciousness to a new form, and following the notes and research of Arium the Eternal on reincarnation, he believes this is possible. If anyone were to read the journal, they would realize that Arium believed he had achieved this transfer of consciousness, and Johannes believes this to be true, meaning Arium is alive but in another form, somewhere in the Wilderness. Johannes wants this future for himself as well since he is afraid of dying, and as a consequence has seen everyone he has ever been friends with pass on before him, despite his age. In actuality, Johannes Luwensan is nearly three hundred years old.
