Summary
The encoded message is safely delivered to the commander, and it reveals that the Sisterhood of Ghosts has resurfaced and is aiding the Wilderman. Commander Tulach dispatches the 29th ranging squad to go deal with the issue, but they do not return nor report back. Thus, he entrusts the task of finding the 29th ranging squad to Gretchen Ash, alongside Leos Whitewind and Jinx. While leaving the garrison, they are made aware that an alliance has been formed between the Howl and Pluvia, Lurisia’s sister state, so that the orc threat and the Wilderman threat can be dealt with together. The party departs (with Golguse in tow) to Lyaron to collect information about the 29th’s whereabouts.
When the group arrives in Lyaron, they witness a man being pursued by two knights. Gretchen knocks the man out, and reveals him to be Elso the Enigmatic, a magician paid by the Queen of Pluvia, Rhea Vandran, to test the skills of the Howl’s best, the 29th ranging squad. He succeeds in injuring some of them, but is captured by them in the end. Now, four of the knights stay behind to tend to the injuries, while holding Elso prisoner. The rest of the 29th heads northeast, to stop the Sisterhood of Ghosts from creating a weapon for the Wilderman by draining the power from some deity. The group now heads northeast, to help the 29th with this quest, but not before sending Golguse back to the Howl to report this information.
The group eventually gets caught in an extreme blizzard. They hunker down, and once the storm subsides, they realize they are now in a completely different place, that is covered in fog. They explore the area, eventually finding a battle taking place on some stone steps. The battle is between a cloaked figure, and a stone armoured knight being backed up by a Sister of Ghosts. After the fight, the cloaked figure is revealed to be a lookalike of Zeris named Verix, who promptly escapes. The group then ascends the staircase, seeing the Sisterhood of Ghosts draining the energy of 0, who eventually dissipates, leaving a crystal seething with energy in his place. The Sisterhood then disappears a the knight from the stairs emerges and transforms into a fleshy amalgamation of limbs.
The group kills the being, learning that it was made from the bodies of the 29th Ranging Squad. The stone altar collapses, sending the group back to the forest where they entered. As they return to the Howl with Jinx carrying the crystal, a mysterious man wearing an owl mask demands they drop the crystal. A battle takes place, with the group trying desperately to destroy the crystal while the man relentlessly barraged them with spells. They succeed in destroying the crystal, and the man leaves, disheartened. The group later finds Golguse’s head on a stake outside of a ruined Lyaron. When they get back to the Howl, Gretchen Ash frames Hylus Jonden and The Spice Knight (along with the Mystic Knight) in a now Pluvian controlled garrison #3.
