Peppipan Chirole, the Spice Knight leaves the Getaway Village and begins heading towards Lurisia to find the Sunday Knight. The Rest of the Merry Band pursue, eventually catching up with Peppipan. However, Peppipan does not enjoy being apart of the Merry Band. Thus, the Merry Band "disbands" and continue to Lurisia as a group of like-minded individuals. Florus Gordrie, the Flower Knight, re-brands the group as the Unfettered Crew. Lans Brahms, in order to gain the trust of Peppipan and the Crew, reveals himself to be not Lans Brahms himself, but his creation, M Night.
The Crew approaches the Howl Headquarters on their way to Lurisia and decide to split up. Due to a bad relationship between Florus and Hylus, M Night manacles them together in order for them to get over their differences. During their time alone, Hylus and Florus attempt to free themselves from the manacles, jumping out of tree to break them on impact. They fail to break them, and Hylus realizes he has lockpicks and un-cuffs them.
M Night and Peppipan enter the Howl HQ, and are led to Bertrand Bower, the Howl's Head Commander. They tell him about the Wilderman's true identity and inquire about the Sunday Knight. They are led to Kent Entyr, the record keeper of Howl HQ, where they are given a briefing by the Gillamoor Embassy, a Pluvia-Howl controlled embassy near the border of Lurisia. The briefing describes that the Sunday Knight has been captured and that the Embassy is seeking instructions on what to do with her. The two head out, reconnecting with the rest of the Crew, as they move towards Gillamoor Embassy.
They reach the Embassy, and meet an excitable fan of the Merry Band, Ronald Jones, who the Crew later nicknamed Babyface for his baby face. They meet with the leader of the Embassy, Captain Faith, who leads them to the jailhouse. There they meet, along with a screaming dwarf with a bag in his head, the Sunday Knight. Just then, they hear fighting outside, and seek the Embassy being invaded by a large group of Gnolls, led by the Gnoll leader Ukiri R'kah. As Ukiri and the Crew fight, the screaming dwarf breaks out of his cell and reveals himself to be Dalotmag Umfloir. Peppipan, who stayed behind with the Sunday Knight, calms Dalotmag and stops him from killing the Sunday Knight. The Crew retreats into the jailhouse, as two Lurisian figures enter the Embassy, unhindered by the Gnoll forces. Peppipan interrogates Gretchen Ash, and learns that she was saved from execution by Jinx, and also the Lurisian knight's name of Dyrion Cinders. The Crew then escapes the burning embassy, while rescuing a number of Pluvian soldiers, along with Babyface and Captain Faith.
