there exist two primary layout views
let's refer to them as:
'global' (big circle of titles w/ dots)
'scattered' (scattering of dots with titles)
so we have two very different types of primary explorations in our platform:
world
story
this discussion will attempt address how we might create clear differences between the two
might we be able to use the same graphic template code to do both?
let's start with yes as the answer to this question
then how can we clearly distinguish the two
so the member/player is never confused about where they are at?
let's tackle the difference later
first let's try to force each exploration type into the template
let's first start with 'story'
global view
chapters & subchapters both get presented
up to some max
then only chapter titles are presented
with subchapter numbers under each
scattered view
one chapter is highlighted with its subchapters
concerns:
will we need to limit the number of chapters or subchapters?
tbd
now 'world'
1st - because there can be so many stories any solution would need to work in concert with some sort of filtering system - limiting what gets displayed
2nd - if we implemented the concept of standing someplace in the world all the time then this helps us limit what gets displayed
default 'standpoint' might show your stories or most popular - if you do not yet have a story
at all times in the nav a player must imagine themselves standing at a particular standpoint in the strugglethru world of stories
so you ALWAYS stand within a particular sphere
within a community sphere all you see is other stories
within a story sphere what you see is its chapters and subchapters
we can easily distinguish the two by some visual element of the display
e.g. blackground color
world = black
story = white
global view
shows the community from where you presently stand or your standpoint community within its community
arranged by any subcommunities
and we can limit the number of subcommunities within any sphere
so that the graphic is never too cluttered
this constraint will actually force creators to be more thoughtful about positioning their story in the world
from the template solution on a full-screen pc we can see that they display up to about 125 items around the global view
this seems more than enough for our app
so our rule is that
inside any community is just two things:
other subcommunities
stories
we can distinguish the two easily in graphic
tapping/clicking on any moves your standpoint to that level or story
scattered view
highlights standpoint community
concerns:
how do we deal with an ever growing number of stories being added to the world?
to a community?
we need to constantly encourage the formation of subcommunities when numbers grow too large to display
this is logical though
(more coming soon)
