Our May Tech Tidbit is Actively Learn!
Actively Learn was designed to help make reading more engaging and to ensure students are gleaning the information from the text that you’re wanting them to walk away knowing or understanding.
You can search through the library of materials other teachers or Actively Learn staff have created. Actively Learn also lets you import your own content either by uploading a document or by linking a website. Science teachers will be excited to know that Actively Learn is now integrating with PHeT simulations, too!
There are a bunch of tools at your disposal, too. The website has built in translation, dictionary, and text-to-speech tools for your ELL students and students with accommodations. You can add in notes to help clarify or direct student thinking. You can add media files to enhance student learning or use it for extra help for struggling learners as a differentiation tool. Ensure students get the big idea by adding in questions that make students stop and think while reading. The annotation and discussion tools can help students engage with other students and their teacher to analyze the text or find evidence during the research process.
There are a lot of options with Actively Learn that can enhance the reading experience for all of your students. It’s fairly intuitive and easy to pick up – I created my first Actively Learn assignment in about 45 minutes! Whether students are using the reading to learn new information, research a topic, and more, Actively Learn can help make the process more structured and meaningful for you and your students.
