Meeting Highlights:
We wrapped up our Building Equity Meetings last night with over 15 students volunteering to create an Equity Club at Skyline for the next school year - a goal which we had set for our Equity initiative at the beginning of the year.
We want to thank all the staff members for encouraging students from your content and SEL classes to email us and express interest. We are looking forward to providing more supports to students and give them opportunities to have a voice in DEI@ SHS.
Zoe Cole, Clair Tan and Kaisa Sherwood (Skyline students) presented on The Importance of LGBTQ+ literature in High Schools. Link to the recording is pasted on the PowerPoint slide and below for you all to watch.
Resources for reading in the PowerPoint : Critical Race Theory
Traps and Troupes in Equity related work (highly recommend it)
In this last update this year, I thank you all and the building administration for coming together in making Skyline an equitable, kind, and positive space for all of us and our students. We were limited in our scope, but we tried our best.
As your Building Liaison, I interacted with several of you about how your make your classroom and curriculum more equitable. And we would all agree that there is a lot more that can be done.
I learned a lot; we took a few steps forward and were very encouraged with the increasing student engagement at these meetings.
I look forward to continuing this work going forward.
