Our June Tech Tidbit is Google Sites!
Google Sites is a free website builder that gives you the freedom to design the site the way you want to. To get started, login to your Google account (did you know you can make a Google account with our school email?) on Google Sites. In the bottom right corner, hit the plus sign to start your new website!
Now it's time to name your website and home page. Simply click in those fields and type in the names you want to give them. Remember, this is your home page, but students will be able to see you page title as you type it.
Next, choose a theme by selecting the far right menu option and trying out the different options. You can try out different color palettes or chose your own by selecting the bucket icon on the far right and picking your favorite color!
There are a lot of options to customize your header. You can upload a custom image, search for a free to use header image, or you can change the header style. If you want to see how it looks, hit the preview button to see what it looks like on desktop and mobile!
Now it's time to build your home page. There are several quick link items that allow you to embed items from outside sites, search or upload images, and much more. Below that, you will see different layout options for sections of your web page. You can add more than one layout on each page, too! Further down, you have more specific items you can embed including a table of contents, image carousel, YouTube videos, and more!
To edit your layout, just click in the sections and a formatting menu will appear so you can make it just as you want. You can also see to the left the section menu which allows you to duplicate it, delete it, or add a background image. You can truly design this site to be just what you want without much fuss!
If you want more than one page, just click in the Pages Menu and click the blue plus sign at the bottom! You're also able to add a custom path to nest it beneath another page as well. Don't forge to hit the blue Publish button at the top when you're ready for your website to go live!
Well, that's the basics of Google Sites! If you need more help setting up and customizing your site, I am more than happy to help you tomorrow at our Ed Tech Conference!
