Culture Day Updates
It would be great if you could post the attached flyer for Culture Day (May 11 in your calendars) in your classroom bulletin boards or display it on Canvas homepage to advertise the event for maximum participation among student body.
To answer any questions regarding the event, please use guidelines in Ms. AT's Powerpoint from Wednesday 5/4. Some ideas for May 11 in classrooms:
Find some time to have students share about their backgrounds. culture on May 11 in our classes
Plan an activity that ties into our curriculum but can be related to Culture day.
Run a fun competition between sections on who has the most students who dressed up for Culture Day for HW pass ( just a suggestion!! Please ignore if you don't think it applies to your course 🙂)
We have 10 culture clubs setting up tables at both lunches to highlight cultural & linguistic diversity at Skyline. Please consider participating in the event yourself by showcasing your country of origin or ancestry to students through activities, attires and email me individually, if you are planning to participate. We would love to maximize participation among staff as we anticipate more positive response in future years if we all can contribute!

Recently parents and guardians have asked about school policies around reciting the Pledge of Allegiance at school. According to Washington State law, RCW 28A.230.140, “students not reciting the pledge shall maintain a respectful silence.” In addition, the law also states that “those pupils so desiring shall recite” the salute.
Students are not required to recite the flag salute at school but should be silent during the exercise. Issaquah School District policy 2333 regarding Flag Exercises also states that Flag exercises shall be conducted in each classroom at the beginning of the school day and at the opening of all school assemblies. Students not reciting the pledge of allegiance shall maintain a respectful silence while either seated or standing.
