The less the gap beween thought and action, when we haiku in the real, the better. Some of us may note it down as it comes from the horses mouth, so to say. Some of us may hold it in mind, for later transcription.

The reason is:
IMMEDIACY!
We try not to get in the way of the non-personal / impersonal, objective haiku sensitivity and its feedback vis-à-vis the object of our attention.
Of course we can intellectualise and fabricate from our memories dreams and reflections [Jung] - but, is this really haiku? Do we need the office desk out in the 'wilds' - whether these be urban, suburban, countryside or wilderness?
Basho advised that we become the pine to express the pine's secrets. That would be the more advanced yoga. On the way to this ideal we can all amp-down and empty our psyches to let the good news in - unadultrated?
I find when this is achieved my haiku is 'alive'. I also find that if I prefabricate in any way, my haiku is 'dead' (albeit, perhaps, clever enough to entertain in a populist manner).
