space dragon

Along the wayless way only those without maps can proceed to nowhere. When I go out hunting the wild haiku there are no protocols or criteria. Only the amazingness of becoming. Once a wild haiku is caught. though, it does need cooked. This is where a good knowledge of recipes can be handy. You know, for the dinner party. . . .Ice Moon—

seems the eye of a space dragon

skims earth. . . .

There was a full moon last night and some patches of cirrus cloud. One of the traditional names for this New Year lunation period is Ice Moon. It was very bright and the landscape was well lit. There was even warmth on the skin.

Pondering this orbital rock and the cirrus clouds, an image of a large creature's head formed. As it were a blind being with radiant eyes, seen from the side as it passed by on some unfathomable mission through the abyss of outer space. . . .

HAIKU DIARY: Time's passed now and this one is settling in to be a favourite of mine. It's definitely authentic. One of those experiences we remember forever. Reading this haibun is like being there again, for me - one of the marvels of haikai (and, my God, there are many more wonders of haikai - some of which are secrets, as yet to be dispensed). Document your own special moments in haibun/haiga/haiku form - keep them as a personal diary of the wanderings and the pauses in this astonishing miracle of existence we find ourselves in, here on the ground. Hallelujah!

"Yes, a fresh activity biased haiku. The use of SEEMS is awesome."

Robert D. Wilson (Simply Haiku Editor & psychonaut)

"This is such a beautiful post, JP. And a beautiful Haiku."

Zelda (haiku fan)

"Now, John ... you have out done yourself with this one. A fabulous haiku!"

Don Baird ('Grandmaster Flash')

ADDED EXTRAS: Incidently, the phases of the moon image [above] illustrates, quite nicely, the following haiku that I sketched from life a couple of years ago. . . .

Ice Moon—

a pearl necklace, slowly

one by one

Which, to my mind, connotes this lovely offering from Matsuo. . . .

this bright harvest moon

keeps me walking all night long

around the little pond

And, finally, another Ice Moon ku. . . .
