Historically in Yorkshire (re-allocated to Lancashire after 1974) Waddington is a small village, 2 miles (3 km) north-west of Clitheroe. New Hey is often mentioned in the old registers of Waddington but is quite unknown in the district today. However, research has proved it to be the present day Coulthursts. It was a group of homes rather than a single farm. (Source : Bolland Forest & Hodder Valley p37)
