The old parish of Mitton extended on the north bank of the Ribble from Ribchester on the west up to Grindleton on the east. All Hallows Church (previously Church of St Michael) dates from C13th and contains the Shireburne of Stonyhurst tombs, it was the mother church of the area.
1567 - 27th February : Percival Speaker was instituted to Mitton. He may have been a crypto papist as he neglected to provide a list of recusants in 1592. Note : There were no Crombleholme's in the recusant lists from 1604 to 1664. Richard Sherburn was patron of the church. (Source : Ackerley's History of Mitton)

Note : "Buried in woollen” : The Burial in Wool Acts of 1667 & 1668 were intended to support the wool trade and required corpses to be buried in wool. A relative of the deceased was required to swear that this had occurred and it was recorded in the register as this one has been. A fine of £5 could be levied on anyone connected with the burial if this was not undertaken. The Acts were repealed in 1814 but had long since fallen into disuse.

1718 - Richard Sherburn was outlawed for high treason (during the first Jacobite Rising) and was seized of an estate called Bayley Hall in the parish of Mitton

Note : They had the following children : Thomas b1833; Alice b1834; Richard b1836; Ellen b1837; Joseph b 1837; Elizabeth* b1841; Esther b 1844; Mary Jane b1847; John b1850 & Edward b1841. The family moved from Leagram into Preston. Elizabeth* b1841 became a nun belonging to the Order of the Faithful Companions of Jesus.
