Mike Murtha’s breakthrough in November 2018 and his logical linking of the Dutton, Long Preston & Crombleholme Fold families :

· We previously thought that Roger [97] was the son of Richard [64] of Dutton

· Richard [64] had another son, Richard [68], and consequently Richard [103] of Crombleholme Fold could not be a brother of Roger 97

· We did not know the parents of Richard [103] of Crombleholme Fold

· Both Roger [97] and Richard [103] had a son named Sherborn

· James Benson’s will identified these two sons and also referred to the fathers as his “brothers”

· This made no sense given the above knowledge about parents

· We now know that Roger [97] and Richard [392] were the sons of William [390] and consequently half/brothers

· As James Benson referred to the fathers of the Sherborns as “brothers” (in law) via a presumed Crombleholme sister, then they were also brothers to each other

· Consequently, Richard [103], the father of one Sherborn, must be the same as Richard [392], the known brother of Roger [97] who was father of the other Sherborn

· If this analysis is correct, then Richard [103] of Crombleholme Fold is the same as Richard [392]. His father was William [390] and Roger [97] was a brother or half-brother

· Richard [103] and Roger [97] were thus first cousins to Richard [68] of Huntingdon Hall

· And it means that Richard Crumbleholme and Mike Murtha have found their common ancestor in William [390] !
