Note : Gretna Green is most famous for weddings, following the 1754 Marriage Act which prevented couples under the age of 21 marrying in England or Wales without their parent's consent. As it was still legal in Scotland to marry, couples began crossing the border in to Scotland and their first stop was the Famous Blacksmiths Shop, Gretna Green.

1841 - Richard Crombleholme [Cro0809 ?? ] and Sarah Caton d/o George Caton at Poulton le Flyde (Source : Geneanet : Ancestry 1841 Census List 16; folio 17 p 31 line 5)
Note : MM June 2020 : There is no record of a marriage anywhere, except on a family tree, and it provides no corroborating document. The evidence suggests that Richard is 809 Richard, a tailor born in Liverpool about 1819, who was working as a tailor in Fleetwood in 1841, 1851 and 1861. He married Elizabeth Roocroft (born in Westmorland) in Lanark in 1847 and she died in 1853. They had two sons.
Sarah was born in Bispham in 1815. Her father George Caton was a tailor. Could Richard have been an apprentice to George? Sarah had an illegitimate son George in 1839 at the Kirkham Workhouse (perhaps the hospital). George junior became a tailor like his grandfather. Sarah died in 1842 at the age of 27. She never used the Crombleholme name. She was Sarah Caton when George was born; in the 1841 census; and when she died.
The most likely explanation is that Richard was the father of the illegitimate George. The person who posted the family tree gave a precise date for the birth, indicating he has seen a birth certificate. If so, perhaps it listed Richard as the father, even though George was registered under the Caton name.
