Lonsdale - Melling / etc , Lancs

This is an area in the north of the county of Lancashire :

1763 - 8th June : Jane Crombleholme  [Cro0842] spinster of this parish (X) married Robert Skirrow, Yeoman of this parish at St Wilfred, Melling in Lonsdale, Lancs. Witness : John Skirrow and Isabell Tatham. Married by licence by John Tatham  (Source : LDS Film 1849660 - marriages 1754-87 p23 entry 88 + Boyds 375 p 154)  Note : Jane C [Cro0842] was the daughter of  John C [Cro0837] & Ellen (nee Bond) [Cro0838]  - he was born in Slaidburn in 1736

1767 -  Ellen Crombleholme [Cro0838] buried in Melling  (Source       ) Note : inquistion of  transferring Dunsop property to her son John Crombleholme [Cro0260] - but other records suggest that she held properties in common with her husband John Crombleholme [Cro0837] who is thought to have died in 1788 ? 

1781 - 4th/11th/18th February : William Crumbleholme [Cro0845] banns read 3 times for marriage to Betty Chapham.[Cro0846] (Source : LDS Film 1849660 - marriages 1754-87 p76 entry 401)  Note : William C [Cro0845] was the son of  John C [Cro0837] & Ellen (nee Bond) [Cro0838]  - he was born in Slaidburn in 1743.

1781 - 21st February : William Crumbleholme [Cro0845] of Melling Parish married Betty (nee Chapham) [Cro0846] of Claughton parish at Hornby (Source : LPRS Vol 59 Reg of Hornby + Boyds 428 p256)  

1783 - 6th September : Richard Crumbleholme [Cro0847] witness to marriage of John Dickson and Ellen Skirrow (Source : LDS Film 1849660 - marriages 1754-87 p83 entry 428)

1782/3 - 17th August : John Crumleholme [Cro0854] son of William Crombleholme[Cro0845] & Elizabeth (nee Chapham) [Cro0846]  of Winder in Roberandale baptised at Hornby  Chapel (Source : LPRS Vol 59 Reg of Hornby & Baptisms 1781-1813  p4 entry 25  LDS Film 1849660)

1783 - 11th December : Richard Crombleholme  [Cro0847]  Husbandman of this parish (X) married Agnes Wildman [Cro0848] spinster of this parish (X) at St Wilfred, Melling in Lonsdale, Lancs.   Witness : John Crombleholme [Cro0843] (X) & John Dodin. Married by licence by John Tatham vicar (Source : LDS Film 1849660 - marriages 1754-87 p84 entry 434 + Boyds 428 p256)  Note : Richard [Cro0847] was the son of  John C [Cro0837] & Ellen (nee Bond) [Cro0838]  - he was born in Slaidburn in 1747.

1792 -    : Agnes Crombleholme [Cro0860] daughter of Richard Crombleholme [Cro0847] & Agnes (nee Wildman) [Cro0848] baptised at St Wilfrid, Melling ?? .  Abode : Roberondale. (Source : To be checked)

1808 - 22nd September  : Agnes Crumbleholme [Cro0860]  aged 16, buried. The daughter of  Richard Crombleholme [Cro0847] of  Longer,  yeoman  at Thornton in Lonsdale (Source : LPRS Par reg via CC) 

 1810 - 2nd April  : John Crumbleholme [Cro0865]  of Longber near Burton in Lonsdale; bachelor aged 71 buried at Thornton in Lonsdale (Source : LPRS Par reg via CC) 

An e mail received 18/1/2017 (I replied with the above information - Melling is west of Burton in Lonsdale)

Richard   -   I am documenting the headstones in our village churchyard and have found one with a very damaged inscription that in 1976 is claimed to have said Crumbleholle with all other details unreadable. Since your family history page says your family came from Bowland and we are only a stones throw away I wonder if this is one of yours ?    

Our village is Burton in Lonsdale and the attached photo is of the grave in the closed churchyard. We call it grave 15 on the plan on this website page  http://www.ingleborougharchaeologygroup.org.uk/BiLgravesurvey     Do you think it possible that someone from your family might have been buried here?  This is NOT a Catholic churchyard      Ian Thompson  (Jan 2017)
