Richard Crumbleholme born in Weymouth Dorset 1950 (owner of website)
In August 2016, for my birthday, my son and his family gave me an Ancestry DNA test kit. Having submitted my saliva sample (!), a few weeks later the information above came back. I was rather surprised that Scandinavia only accounted for some 19% of the make up estimate.
However, with our male family names featuring many Richards and Williams (both Norman names), the western European influence is perhaps not so surprising. Overall, the ethnicity is pretty restricted geographically. The 1% trace is Greece / Italy - perhaps the Roman influence.
How much can be read into this estimate is debatable with some genealogists dismissing the whole concept. No doubt, the process will be refined in the future and the Ancestry organisation is building a large database with the test results that they gather.
I was also given a number of "relatives" from the database with a third cousin being the closest. I did e mail this person via the Ancestry website and we have corresponded by e mail but to date cannot find any link !
