The earliest member of the Crumblehulme family in Christine Crumblehulme's research is William Crumblehulme [Cro0956] who was born in 1831 in the Folds Road area of Bolton in Lancashire. His father died of cholera when he was only 5 years old and his mother remarried.
In the Ancestry extract below he is the one with the large white beard !
There is likely to be some doubt in records due to the spelling of the name (Crumbleholme / Crumblehulme) although it appears that Crombleholme (with two "o") is the more common form of the name.

Note : W Crumblehulme & Son Ironfounders : William Crumbleholme [Cro0956] had worked for Brown, Altam & Co an ironfounders established in 1854 which later became Hiton & Brown. The foundry was in Emblem Street, Great Bolton and William lived nearby in No36. William worked for the company for 11 years first as a clerk and then as a salesman.
In 1875 having worked for Hiton & Brown for over eleven years he decided that it was time to set up in business for himself. His three eldest sons were now in a position to help him – John a blacksmith, James a joiner, and Alfred, a foundry worker, and he had the expertise and connections gained through many years working for Hiton & Brown. In 1874 he found a suitable business at Chorley – and with financial help from Mr. James Edge, a long standing friend of his, he bought Towns Green Foundry, St. Thomas Road, from Henry Banks for £800, and by 1875 ‘Crumblehulme & Edge’ was in business. In 1879 ‘Hiton & Brown’ came up for sale – so William returned to Bolton and took over the foundry, this time as ‘the boss’ of the business where he had started all those years ago, but now it was known as ‘W.Crumblehulme & Sons’. Above : A family photograph (c1890's) of William Crumblehulme [Cro0956] (centre with white beard) and his family given to me in 1981 by Brian & Christine Crumblehulme of Bolton (see link to Christine's research above). The names were added by Christine and the photograph would appear to date from c1890 judging by say the age of Samuel Pope C [Cro0970] who was born 1870.
Note : I can recall my great aunt Louie Crumbleholme [Cro0253] (of Weymouth) saying that she remembers that as a child, she went somewhere with her parents and saw a picture of a family with bearded men and was told they were Ironfounder Crombleholmes !!

His effects were surprisingly only £51 6s - but as can be seen in Christine Crumblehulme's research (link above) the company was already in financial trouble and failed shortly afterwards.
