Note : This section requires updating !

There were TWO Sherburne Crombleholme's ! Their christian names almost certainly derived from their grandmother Katherine (nee Sherburne) [Cro0111] wife of William Crombleholme [Cro0390] (c1588-1639) originally of Dutton.

1) Sherburne Crombleholme [Cro0105] (1657-1727) - son of Richard Crombleholme [Cro0103] & Elizabeth (nee Clitherall) [Cro0104] of Crombleholme Fold in Goosnargh, brother of Roger Crombleholme [Cro0097] below.

(Source : Lancashire Archives De Houghton of Hoghton, Ribchester Church Ref DDHO 259) Note : This record confirms Elizabeth's maiden name.

** Quire - an architectural term. Many churches at that time were shaped like a cross, and the choir was the space between the horizontal part of the cross (known as the transept) and the altar. It was used for the seating of the clergy and choir. The word choir probably derives from "quire". Being buried inside the church in the quire instead of outside in the churchyard was a great honour and generally it was a place for high churchmen, nobles and gentry etc and probably required a generous donation as well.
