Cowley Chess Club believes in providing a safe environment where players of all ages can enjoy the game. Pending the election by the club of a new Child Protection Officer, safeguarding concerns should for the present be addressed to Bob Samuels (Club Chair), who can be contacted on <robert.samuels @ ntlworld.com>, (spaces inserted to avoid spam emails).

Cowley Chess Club adopted a Child Protection Policy at an EGM on 11th May 2009. The policy has subsequently had minor edits made to it for clarity which were accepted at the AGM on 7th September 2009.

All of our cabinet (core committee members), coaching panel, team captains and tournament organiser have enhanced disclosures from the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB), as volunteers who have regular contact with children, in accordance with the club's Child Protection Policy.

The club also has the following policies, which should be read in conjunction with the Child Protection Policy:

Disclosure Information Handling Policy (adopted on 11th May 2009, minor edits for clarity accepted at AGM on 7th September 2009).
Policy Statement on Recruitment of Ex-offenders (adopted on 11th May 2009, minor edits for clarity accepted at AGM on 7th September 2009).
Complaints Procedure (incorporated into the constitution at the AGM on 7th September 2009).

Finally, we would like to thank Richmond Junior Chess Club for allowing us to use their Child Protection policy as a starting point for ours.
