Radley College v Cowley 4 friendly match, 14 October 2013

Post date: 14-Oct-2013 22:58:46

Nearly a year after our first friendly match, players from Cowley's fourth-division team returned to Radley College to get some more practice in, not to mention the excellent sandwiches, biscuits, tea and coffee with which our hosts plied us.

The time control of game in 30 minutes was rather faster than we would have ideally liked, allowing the Radley players to get to bed at a decent hour. Nevertheless, players made good use of their time. Some of the Cowley players are unaccustomed to recording their games, and a few found it difficult to concentrate on writing the moves down while also playing solid chess. Still, it's all good experience!

The match was much closer than last year's. As Priscilla Morris cruised home to victory in the last game to finish, she was unaware that Cowley needed the full point from her to secure victory in the match. Fortunately she kept her focus and delivered the win, enabling Cowley to prevail 4-3.

A provisional date of 11 November has been set for another friendly match at Radley.
