Cowley Chess Club Subscriptions 2012-13

Post date: 12-Sep-2012 21:01:09

Because of changes in the way we need to pay for ECF grading of games in OCA competitions (basically, ECF members will have their games graded free, non-ECF-members will pay £2 per graded game) we have introduced a new schedule of club subscriptions, agreed by the club AGM held on Monday 3 September. The new scheme involves:

(i) ‘regular’ club subscriptions for those who have as individuals already taken out membership of the ECF for the current year;

(ii) ‘enhanced’ club subscriptions for all non-ECF members, which includes a sum we shall use to register them as ‘bronze-level’ members of the ECF for the year through the OCA—unless they explicitly request us not to use that part of their subscription for this purpose.

I urge you to take out ECF membership for the year immediately at the level appropriate for you (e.g., bronze if you expect not to play in competitions other than league chess, silver if you expect to play in tournaments such as Kidlington, gold if you intend to play in FIDE-rated events) and then to take out a ‘regular’ club subscription with the club as soon as possible, preferably before Monday 15 October. There are several advantages in doing this:

(i) you will save yourself money (it costs only £12 [just £8 for juniors] to take out ‘bronze’ membership of the ECF online);

(ii) you will have greater control from the beginning over your ECF membership subscription; and

(iii) you will save club and county officials unnecessary work.

To take out membership of the ECF, go to their website at http://www.englishchess.org.uk/

and follow the links.

Cowley Chess Club membership forms (separate forms for 'regular' subscriptions and for 'enhanced' subscriptions) are available at the club. They can also be downloaded from here (see files attached below).

Club subscriptions for 2012-13 have been set at the following levels:

Regular subscriptions (for those who have already taken out ECF membership for themselves for the year 2012-13):

Full regular subscription: £25

Adult concessions, and juniors (U18): £10

First-time junior joiners: £5

‘Enhanced’ subscriptions (which include the cost of ECF membership at ‘bronze’ level for the year, which can be taken out via the club and the OCA):

Full ‘enhanced’ subscription: £40

Adult Concessions: £25

Juniors (U18): £20

First-time junior joiners: £15

N.B. Those who have filled in their ‘enhanced’ membership form and given it to the Club Treasurer with their subscription no later than 15 October will be entitled to a £2 discount on their subscription.

If you have any questions about the new scheme, I will be happy to answer them.

Gerard O’Reilly (Treasurer)
