UK Chess Challenge Megafinal

Priscilla Morris has submitted the following comments on this national event. As can be seen Oxfordshire juniors did very well. In particular, we offer our congratulations to Cowley players Maria and Anna Wang and Oscar Idle for their fine performances.

"We had 180 entries for the UK Chess Challenge Megafinal, coming from 32 different schools in Oxfordshire (including the Old North Berkshire Area) and also ten entries from other Oxfordshire schools via the “Last Chance Saloon”. There were nine volunteers on the Controlling team. About a third of the players (56) qualified for the Gigafinal and about a fifth of those qualified for the Terafinal(4) and Challengers(8). Marcus Harvey won the Terafinal (£2000) and Maria Wang came =3^rd (£400). Anna Wang came 36^th (£30). Elizaveta Sheremetyeva was unable to take part. 4 players took part in the Challengers tournaments. Zoë Varney shared the top girl prize (£50) and Oscar Idle and Pavel Asenov both got a DVD/book. Leonora Ives (U8) took part."
