Welcome to Cowley Chess Club.

We are an Oxford club, with around 40 members and 4 teams which compete in the Oxford & District Chess League. We meet every Monday evening (except during Christmas week and on Easter Monday) from 7:15pm at Rose Hill Methodist Church, Rose Hill, Oxford. OX4 4JP (see directions), just an 8 minute drive from Oxford city centre.

New members of all strengths and ages are welcome. The club has an ethos where stronger players are encouraged to help with informal coaching, which is available to all. Monday evenings usually consist of a mixture of social games and coaching in one room, and league chess in a separate room. Junior chess is encouraged and catered for and club nights and tournaments are always overseen by our DBS-checked volunteers. Monthly drop-in Juniors' Nights are open to young visitors as well as members.

Cowley has four teams which play in the three divisions of the Oxford & District League and cater for all members who wish to play competitive chess.

We run an internal club handicap competition, where players receive time bonuses depending on their grade. We also organise open blitz events, normally every 6 months just before Christmas and mid-summer. All Oxfordshire club players are invited to these events and details are posted on this site at the time.
