Summary of 2009-10 Season

Post date: 20-Apr-2010 09:07:41

The winter season has now concluded and overall it has been a very successful one for Cowley. The momentum described in our 'Half-Term' report was not quite maintained but all teams did very creditably with no side coming lower than 4th in their league. In particular, congratulations are due to the 2nd team which took the Division 2 title and finished Runners-up in the Frank Wood Shield. They can now look forward to Division 1 chess next season! The 1st team had another sound season to finish in second place in Division 1 and the 3rd and 4th teams both did very well to finish 4th in their respective leagues.

Several players performed strongly for the club including Club Captain Jon D'Souza Eva with a playing record of 83% in league matches and Rod Nixon, Geoff Rasell, Anna Wang and Jenny Cooke who all scored over 70% in theirs. The club also benefitted greatly from the arrival of Jason McKenna and Harry Myring who played regularly on Board 1 for the 1sts and 3rds respectively and achieved excellent 50% records. In total, 44 players represented the club this season, the 4ths called on 19 of these including several new players who joined during the year. Of these, Ben Dyson with 4 points from 5 games and Sara Sengenberger with 2.5 from 3 games did especially well.

We hope to show Match Captain reports in the next week or two and all team and individual performances can be seen on the Match Reports page.
