Cowley 1 in Advent

Post date: 16-Dec-2014 19:52:16

My last posting was a rejoicing over Cowley 1's first win of the season, hoisting us to fifth in the league (out of 8). However, our remaining matches in 2014 were extremely tough, against probably the three strongest teams; Witney 1, City 1 and University 1. Fortunately we raised our game and produced a creditable performance. We held league leaders Witney 1 to a 3-3 draw, with wins by Antonio and super-sub Asif, and then beat the University 3.5-2.5 thanks to wins by Rod, Dave and a default. This momentarily raised us to a peak of second in the league, but it wasn't to last. City 1 then promptly trounced us 4.5 to 1.5, with only Nick getting a win.

So, after half our matches played, we are back in fifth position. The league is amazing tight last season, with six clubs within only three points of each other. Any of them could get relegated. In the previous season, four points were enough to stay up, but already all eight clubs have already reached this level. The final half of this season promises to be a real dog fight, with lots of surprises ahead. We will have to be strong to stay up!

As I speak, we still don't know the draw for the first round of the Frank Wood Shield. This round is scheduled for the week of the 5th of January, so we will have to be ready for match early in the New Year. Otherwise, our next match is our second clash against Cowley 2 on January 19th.
