This was a match we were hoping to win, but unfortunately, it was not to be. Endre and Ray overcame Georg Vikanis and Gary Jackson on the top boards, and Paul and Geoff achieved solid draws against Nick Martin and Poderico Francesco. However Dave blundered whilst two pawns up against Paul Trewhela which left us 3-2 up with one game remaining. In this game, Will (the man who is so keen to play, he plays even when not selected!), faced a fierce attack down the g file from Carl Portman. Despite setting several traps for perpetual, he eventually succumbed, leaving the final score 3-3.
