The lack of sun is still bugging some of us and now I'm beginning to wonder if we can use the Phoenix gate to help us with it. Donovan is using some non-atlantean magic to block the sun so perhaps we can do the same. First we need to figure out exactly how this shell of darkness is encompassing the earth. I was originally going to get some pictures from the space station but communication has been cut off with it since the shield went into place. So I figure this is another good test of the Phoenix Gate. Maybe it can bypass the atlantean restriction of not being able to effect things beyond the earth's atmosphere. I gather everyone together and use the gate to will the horsemen into space and we soon found ourselves floating with two stunned astronauts. We explained who we were and one of them soon recognized that I was Dr Anderson's student and that explained some things without the need for actually explaining. We told them we were here to get a look at this thing blocking out the sun. It was indeed a shell around the whole earth. The shell appeared to be stationary with the earth rotating within it, exactly what we were hoping for. I focus all my will into the gate and imagine a hole burning through the darkness and one does appear. After a time the hole begins to fill in. We start doing tests of various sized holes and try to calculate the rate of growth of the shell. This is quite boring to the others of course. Danno says in the shadows glad the station doesn't have a lot of windows, he isn't comfortable this close to the sun. Hector on the other hand is enjoying the view of the moon from here. This is probably the closest a Uratha has ever been to Mother Luna and he wasn't going to squander that.
Eventually we figure out the proper size hole that I should be able to keep open with a daily dose of the Phoenix Gate. All we need is a hole to let some light through. Now with the help of the Nexus and Taranis' knowledge of Forces, we are going to turn the lights back on. We return to Ahava and Taranis starts formulating his plan. After several hours there is a ball of yellow light in the sky again. This ball, while made of sunlight, didn't actually look like the sun, instead it was a big smiley face sticking it's tongue out with the roman numerals IV across its forehead. Some would say it is hubris to "poke the bear" with such a display, but we think differently, we are the horsemen and infuriating Donovan is part of our job.
Danno and the other friendly vampires were of course not to happy about the sun returning, but the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. We needed the sun back, the sleepers and everyone else on this planet needed it back. Only a few minutes pass any nearly everybody in Ahava is outside just soaking in the rays. I can feel the spirit of this place lifted already. I know this will happen all over the world and it will ultimately help us. Donovan wants fear and wants to quell the feeling of hope and we aren't letting him have that.
