Our super exciting research is interrupted by the proximity alarms going off. Cameras don't seem to show anything at first but then I find what appears to be a much smaller version of the Korthak we fought down in the Fae cave. I grab Ohm and we head up to the roof to talk to it.
Basically when we killed Janus the contract he had over this thing was nulled. The mages had already closed down the hole through the hedge so the Korthak was stuck on this side and quite bored. He figured he didn't really know anybody but us and since he considered us honorable warriors he would come see what we could do for him. We weren't very keen on bringing any new allies into the fold, still feeling the burn from the other one. We told him we really didn't have room at the moment but we were willing to provide transportation to anywhere he wanted. The Korthak apparently really likes to fight and was hoping he could fight along side us because we would fight things that were a challenge. Then it hit me that we still had a loose end down in Mexico that needed taking care of and it sure as hell was a challenge for us. I tell the Korthak about the forest spirit and he likes the idea. I drop a portal for him to outside the forest and he steps through to go hunt Ezukumunda. This will work out well, get rid of the forest spirit and keep the Korthak busy. We didn't want to burn the bridge with it since it could come in handy at later date, now just wasn't the right time.
Meeting with the Korthak reminds me that we still have this Phoenix Gate lying about so I head to the Palace to ask the Lady Abigail if I can use her personal library. This thing is going to require old school books. Not a whole lot about this gate. It is certainly not of Fae make and doesn't appear to be Atlantean. It is of unknown origin and is rumored to have existed since the beginning of time. One thing that is known is that it does allow the wearer to go forward in time for a min or so. While they are there they can't interact directly with the environment but they can move around and away while they wait for time to catch up with them. This is what Janus was doing to get away from us. It seems with proper control of will this effect can be controlled with a greater degree of accuracy. It also has the ability to bring the dead back to life. Using some sort of connection to the deceased, hair ,blood or the like placed upon the gate and a body and that individual will come back to life in that body. Janus had used his own body as the target of that particular ability and used Stephen's blood and lingering connection to the mote that Danno was carrying to bring Stephen back to life. Because Janus used his own body the two became intertwined. The gate itself seems very fragile and it appears it can be separated into pieces. There is some evidence that it has been separated in the past to hide it from others but the pieces will automatically join together when brought back together. It is a very strange device with little known about it. I think I've exhausted the library research that can be done on it. Anything further will require functional tests.
