Surround Sound

The house came wired for surround sound in the playroom and in the family room. All the wires run to a box with a blank face plate.

A while back, I installed a Denon receiver with 5.1 speakers. Four speakers are mounted on the ceiling as shown, one is mounted at the front and the sub woofer is off to the side.

Initially, I used a brush insert on the face plate, but was never satisfied with how it looked. I replaced it with an 8 post Speaker Plate. It is still a mess, but I think it looks more professional.

I simply twisted the wires from the receiver together with the wires from the speakers and covered with electrical tape.

The positive terminal (+) is red and its speaker wire is white, and the negative (-) is black.

Parts (both come with very good directions):

    • 8 pcs 24K Gold 90 Degree Right Angle Nakamichi Speaker Banana Plugs Audio Jack Connector for Speaker Cable, Corrosion-Resistant, 4 Black and 4 Red ~$30.00

    • Fosmon [Quad Speaker] Home Theater Wall Plate - Premium Quality Gold Plated Copper Banana Binding Post Coupler Type Wall Plate for 4 Speakers (White) ~$12.00

With the sound on connect one speaker at a time. Check that the sound is coming from the correct speaker.

Follow the Denon Receiver instructions to calibrate the system.
