Smart Home Automation Projects
Smart Home Automation Projects
This site documents my DIY Smart Home Automation projects. It is best viewed on a laptop.
I am not paid for any recommendations.
After doing many on-line projects, I was disappointed by guides with missing steps or that assumed knowledge I didn't have. Debugging why something doesn't work isn't fun and can be very time consuming.
There are many good project and tutorial sites. I reference those rather than try to improve upon them. My goal is to finish a project quickly and without error. So, I focus on the steps required to complete the project, rather than providing all the bakground neccessary to understand what is happening. I may include tutorials on the step in the step's references. Normally, I will do a project 3-4 times to ensure I can follow the steps without fail. I then automate those steps as much as possible.
After doing many projects, I realized I was often repeating common steps. So, I created Reusable Steps to limit repetition and make it easier to keep projects up to date.
Most projects are related to Smart Home Automation so I grouped projects by common Home Automation Categories. I alsso have a list of my favorites (Best HA Projects or Best RPi Projects).
How to use this site:
Use search to find a project of interest or step through the Home Automation Categories.
Scan through Design Principles, Limitations and Standards. These pages provide insight into how a project's instructions are designed and are meant to work.
Build the project following the instructions. If you run into any problems or something doesn't work, then go to Questions and ask a question or make a suggestion on how to improve. Any feed back is welcome
