Most of my Raspberry Pis run without a monitor or keyboard. Usually, to get them in that state, I need to drag out a keyboard and monitor. Set them up and then put the monitor and keyboard away.
These steps allow me to make a few modifications while the microSD card is connected to my laptop.
Required:
Class 10 MicroSD card flashed with latest version of raspbian
MacBook
USB-C to USB cable
USB to microSD card adapter
Step 1. microSD Card
This guide assumes a freshly flashed microSD Card with the latest version of raspbian. I use a USB-C to USB to microSD card adapter to connect to my MacBook
If inserted, remove the USB adapter from MacBook
Put the USB adapter back into the MacBook
A drive called boot should appear on your desktop
Step 2. ssh, ssid, username and password are set in Raspberry Pi Imager
A couple of steaps are no tlonger required.
Step 3. Close the Terminal and Eject the drive
Close the terminal window
Select the boot drive and eject it (from Finder window or from desktop)
Remove SD adapter from MacBook and remove micro SD card from adapter
Step 4. Put microSD Card in Raspberry Pi
Put the microSD card in a Raspberry Pi
If the Wi-Fi step was completed, then the Raspberry Pi will show up in your network as raspberrypi.
In my case, it shows as connected to my 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network.
Return to previous step and attach heat sinks and insert all of the appropriate connectors, and power on the Raspberry Pi
