Installed August Smart Pro door locks on front and back door. I just followed the directions provided. Basically, download the app and walk through the steps.
I had a couple of issues during the install:
Once the August is installed, I recommend using your house key to ensure the door lock moves easily.
On the front door, I didn't do the recommended blue tape step because I didn't want to clean the goop off the door. So, the outside part of the lock slipped out when I took the screws out, and the pin that opens and closes the lock slipped out of its hole. This made it very difficult to push the side clips back. I didn't realize what was causing this until I got it all back together and the August lock wouldn't work.
I am not sure if each door is supposed to have its own HomeKit, or if only one is needed. I could not get both doors to lock/unlock with just one.
The front door has a clear line of sight to the door. The back door does not. Finding a place where the two could communicate was a challenge.
The lock can be opened or closed with key from outside, by hand from inside, by Echo with voice command and code, or by August or Alexa app
This is a bit of a pain. The first one went in fine. For the second one I had to disable all nearby bluetooth devices (laptops, cell phones, etc.) and unplug the other HomeKit.
Don't use Apple's HomeKit
The top white "button" is a powerful magnet that the door lock uses to sense when the door is opened or closed.
This is the one to wait for August Wi-fi Smart Lock
