Recast was used in my TV Cord Cutting system. I now use Tablo.
Fire TV Recast can connect wirelessly, but I connected to my home LAN using an ethernet cable.
Follow the directions that come with the device. I get 33 broadcast channels, but I cut that down to just the 7 my family watches.
Fire TV has a menu item called Live. On the Live tab, scroll to the bottom to see the guide.
You may need to go to Amazon
Click on the Three Bar menu
Scroll down to Your Account
Click on Manage Content and Devices
I have 7 TVs/Projectors with either Fire TV built-in or with an external FireTV Cube. I renamed them by the room they are in
Troubleshooting:
If gateway loses power, the Fire TV Recast needs to be power cycled.
As of FEB2025, Recast cannot be set up with FireTV app. Need to add Amazon Fire TV Recast & Blaster app from AppStore.
Bug: Cannot Record Series on Fire TV Recast
On or about 13FEB2025, many people's recast lost the ability to record series. Most preeviously recorded series stopped working. Currently playing episodes can be recorded.
I saw many isues on the FireTV Forum. The forum asked people to contact Amazon support, which I did. I started a chat with an Amazon rep. After a while of dead ends with various support personnel, Amazon support told me to factory reset the Recast. I don't know if this fix works without a Factory Reset, but I am guessing it will.
The actual issue seems to be caused by a bug in the Amazon Fire TV Code code that added the top menu. The Recast doesn't know how to record a program set using All, Recents or Favorites in the Fire TV.
The Fix:
If you scroll all the way up on Guide, you will see a menu like this: All, Recents, Favorites, Fire TV Recast, etc.
If you scroll over and select Fire TV Recast, then go down and record a series, it will work.
Please note you cannot press on the episode, you must use the 3 line hamburger menu to record the series
Recording a series that is currently live may not prove it is working. Please pick one that is upcoming.
If it is working, a little red dot will appear in the guide next to the program. If it is not working, then no red dot.
Also, in the DVR menus, you can see future episodes are being recorded.
I have not had enough time to see if this works for future episodes (next day or next week).
