Linksys Router (Access Point)

I have an AP upstairs (WRT3200ACM) and AP downstairs (ground floor - WRT1900ACS). These wireless access points (AP) are used for Wi-Fi. Each has 2 radios. One is used for 2.4GHz and the other radio is used for 5.0GHz.

While both devices are actually routers, I set them to operate in bridge mode and only use the AP functionality.

I have the following setup:

AT&T GigaPower BGW210-700 Gateway connected to two Wi-Fi Access Points and two switches

The gateway has two radios. However, all Wi-Fi on the AT&T gateway is disabled.

The gateway serves DHCP

Each AP has two radios

SSIDn and SSIDn2 for 2.4GHz radios with 802.11n only

SSID5ac and SSID5ac2 for 5.0GHz radios with 802.11ac only

Guest Wi-Fi is disabled on all APs

IPv6 is disabled on APs

APs and switches are in Bridge mode. IP addresses are handed out by the gateway and all devices are on the same subnet

Step 1. Setup linksys account and register device

This only needs to be done once

Set up an account here: linksyssmartwifi.com

Step 2. Quick Setup Guide

If already setup, then go to next step

Step 3. login into AP to access LinkSys Smart Wi-Fi app

In a browser, connect to your AP using one of the following:

      • the n SSID of the AP, if already set up

      • the IP address shown in the ISP's Gateway

      • linksyssmartwifi.com and login

For my AT&T Gateway, if I am using the IP address, then I look in Gateway >> Device >> Status to find IP address of the AP

<IP address> = 192.168.xxx.xxx / Linksys ID

Step 4. Connect to AP's Wi-Fi

Set laptop's Wi-Fi to connect to the SSID of the AP

If already setup, then it is the SSID

If reset (see troubleshooting below), then use Lnksys ID

Step 5. Login to AP

Set laptop's Wi-Fi to connect to the SSID of the AP or go to the IP address: <IP address> of the device

login using default password or password set

Step 6. Don't change the SSID

After a reset, don't change the SSID. Leave the SSIDs as default - don’t change until all other items changed

Don’t setup account, already have one - it will spin for a long time, don’t wait

go to linksyssmartwifi.com and log in

Step 7. Set to Bridge Mode

Go to Connectivity, Internet Settings, and set to Bridge Mode - must do this first

You will lose Wi-Fi connection, reconnect in Browser's url to <IP address>

Step 8. Change SSIDs

Go to Connectivity, Basic, edit, change SSIDs Cartwright and Cartwright5ac

If the above fails, then do one SSID at a time

Switch guest network to Off

Step 9. Change bandwidth settings

Go to Wireless Settings,

for SSID5ac:

Broadcast SSID = Yes, Channel = Auto, Security Mode = WPA2 Personal, Wi-Fi Mode = 802.11ac Only, Channel Width = Auto

Press Apply, then press Ok

For SSIDn:

Braodcast SSID = Yes, Channel =Auto, Security Mode = WPA2 Personal, Wi-Fi Mode = 802.11b/g/n-only, Channel Width = 20MHz Only

Press Apply, then press Ok

Troubleshooting

Second radio is not broadcasting

To fix hold reset button down for 30s, continuing to hold reset button unplug power for 30s, continuing to hold reset plug in power and hold reset for 30s

No internet

Restart AT&T Gateway

Reset AP to Factory Defaults

Hold down reset button for ten seconds

Only set up one AP at a time. Trying to do both at once will cause issues.
