RetroPie can be purchased on a MicroSD card, or it can be installed on top of Raspberry Pi OS. This step shows how to install and configure RetroPie on Rasperry Pi OS.
It is definitely easier to buy. The Fastoe RetroPie card comes with Raspberry Pi OS and 10,000 games and associated emulators installed.
Step 1. Setup Raspberry Pi 4 Model B running ReetroPie on Raspberry PI OS
Please read the Notes below, then do the steps in the link in 1. After the steps are completed, you should have a Raspberry Pi 4 running Raspberry Pi OS, with a monitor, keyboard and mouse. Also, ssh should be enabled (raspi-config), and you can terminal into the Retropie server.
Notes:
RetroPie does NOT run on the latet version of Raspberry Pi OS. So, do NOT do:
apt dist update
apt update
apt upgrade
Put the Raspberry Pi in the case.
Instead of choosing Raspberry Pi OS, select "Emulation and Game OS" and choose RetroPie, then Retropie 4.8 (RPi4).
Do NOT setup the RPi4 as headless.
RPI.GPIO comes installed with Retropie. This may be important later.
